Wilhelmina Peace

Wilhelmina Peace is a visual artist interested in esoteric practice and the psychological underpinnings of myth, fairy tale and folklore. She holds a degree in Cultural Anthropology from Queens University Belfast and is currently working on a degree in Printmaking at the Belfast School of Art. Wilhelmina's practice is deeply invested in the exploration of personal mythology. This entails creating work across different mediums such as drawing, printmaking, collage and bookmaking. Her work draws heavily on surrealism and symbolism to bring forth narratives buried in the unconscious. Jungian psychology, comparative mythology, occult arts and personal metamorphosis are areas of profound interest that animate Wilhelmina's practice.
As an arts educator, Wilhelmina has created and facilitated workshops for community groups all over Northern Ireland. She is mainly concerned with empowering people to express themselves and take ownership over their innate creative potential. She is the director of Oak Moon, a new arts organisation whose primary aim is to work with disadvantaged communities and offer them greater opportunities to engage in art-making.
