Introduction to Casual style lettering with Laura Nelson.

This workshop is for practicing artists or creatives interested in learning about Casual Lettering.

You will be introduced to the basics of signpainting with a focus on the traditional Casual lettering style. Casual lettering in sign painting refers to a style of hand-painted lettering that is less formal and more relaxed than traditional, blocky styles. It often uses rounded, italic or slanted letterforms and is seen as a more casual, stylish approach to sign design. Casual alphabets tend to have a lot of personality.

The workshop will begin with a short history of the Signpainting craft and how the Casual lettering style fits within it. We will take a look at examples of the most beautiful shop signs in Ireland before exploring signpainting materials, tips and tricks and then practicing our own Casual lettering alphabets.

We will be working with sign painting essential tools such as papers, pencils, brushes and paint. The workshop might be a little messy so wear clothes you don’t mind getting painty.
